Mastodon Announce A New Album Set For A January 2009 Release… And I Die A Little More On The Inside

God-fucking-awful Georgia-based metallers Mastodon are set to unleash their fifth full length steaming pile of shit in January 2009, according to SMN News.

MASTODON hope to have the followup to Blood Mountain out by January 2009. Speaking to Artist Direct, the metal act claim it is “far the biggest departure from record to record that we’ve done”.

They are working with Brendan O’Brien (Rage Against The Machine, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam), with the lyrical focus set to explore topics relating to Czarist Russia. The only song title to have been confirmed for the album so far is The Ghost of Karilla.
You know it’s going to “rock” because they’re working with some guy who worked with some popular mainstream bands, but… it’s not like they’re selling out or anything. Then again, they always sucked, so selling out would probably be a good career move for them anyway. The Ghost of Karilla, huh? What… was “We Are Fucking Gaylords” too subtle of an album title?
