  • In yet another cash grab movie, the UK’s Earache Records have announced that they are set to re-issue Deicide’s Scars Of The Crucifix later this summer as part of Earache’s “Classic Series”.

On August 25th in Europe and September 2nd in the US, EARACHE RECORDS will
be reissuing SCARS OF THE CRUCIFIX, the classic 2004 album from Floridian
death metal legends DEICIDE as part of the Earache Classic Series.

SCARS OF THE CRUCIFIX is due to be reissued with a bonus DVD, featuring a
never-before-seen live show filmed in Nottingham, UK in 2003. SCARS OF THE
    CRUCIFIX
was the last DEICIDE album with guitarists Brian and Eric Hoffman, and this exclusive DVD will be the first and only official DVD release to
    feature the brothers!

Apparently one of Deicide’s most boring and worthless albums is a “classic”. You know what else is “classic”? Coca-Cola. Do you know what the difference is between Coke and Coca-Cola Classic? Absofuckinglutely NOTHING! It’s the same old shit REPACKAGED! What a waste of plastic…

  • God-fucking-awful Georgia-based metallers Mastodon are set to unleash their fifth full length steaming pile of shit in January 2009, according to SMN News.

MASTODON hope to have the followup to Blood Mountain out by January 2009. Speaking to Artist Direct, the metal act claim it is “far the biggest departure from record to record that we’ve done”.

They are working with Brendan O’Brien (Rage Against The Machine, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam), with the lyrical focus set to explore topics relating to Czarist Russia. The only song title to have been confirmed for the album so far is The Ghost of Karilla.

You know it’s going to “rock” because they’re working with some guy who worked with some popular mainstream bands, but… it’s not like they’re selling out or anything. Then again, they always sucked, so selling out would probably be a good career move for them anyway. The Ghost of Karilla, huh? What… was “We Are Fucking Gaylords” too subtle of an album title?

  • According to BLABBERMOUTH.NET Members of Swedish death thrashers The Crown have announced the formation of a new band, led by vocalist Andreas Bergh of Deathstars, using the moniker Dobermann.

Vocalist Andreas “Whiplasher Bernadotte” Bergh of the Swedish industrial goth metal band DEATHSTARS has joined the new band formed by four former members of the now-defunct Swedish death/thrash act THE CROWN. The new group, dubbed DOBERMANN, is currently recording a collection of tunes which are being described as “pure death/thrash metal.”

“I’m totally hyped about finally writing songs with this act of 666% nitroglycerin,” stated Bergh, who was previously in the Swedish death metal band SWORDMASTER. “DOBERMANN is just genius.”

    DOBERMANN is:

Magnus Olsfelt (THE CROWN) – Bass
Marko Tervonen (THE CROWN, ANGEL BLAKE) – Guitar
Marcus Sunesson (THE CROWN) – Lead Guitar
Janne Saarenpää (THE CROWN) – Drums
Andreas Bergh (DEATHSTARS, SWORDMASTER) – Vocals

Tervonen told BLABBERMOUTH.NET: “Not many people noticed when THE CROWN released the Possessed 13 album that Andreas actually wrote the lyrics to the song “Deliverance”. Also 2002 when THE CROWN was without a singer Andreas was supposed to fill in for a U.S. tour (featuring KREATOR and DESTRUCTION) with us, but logistics got in the way so we cancelled the tour. So he’s definitely not a stranger to us.”

THE CROWN split up more than four years ago due to “too many tours gone bad due to not at all professional tour arrangements,” according to a March 2004 statement released by Saarenpää. He added, “Coming home from tours with empty pockets, equipment falling apart and having a pile of bills on the doorstep is simply ‘horns down’. Paying the bills with tour memories and floorscores is just not possible. We do love standing on stage but we don’t know much about the business part, and that’s a bad combination.”

When The Crown announced they’d split up, I was pretty pissed off. Deathrace King and Possessed 13 were two of the best death thrash albums to be released in more than a decade and their departure left a huge void in the scene. I’m excited to hear new material, even if Johan Lindstrand and his massive mutton chops aren’t involved. It’s too bad they picked such a stupid name though. Dobermann? Fucking terrible. Hopefully goth metal boy won’t ruin this by queering this shit up.
