  • Swedish black/death metallers Grief Of Emerald are working on a new full length

Swedish black/death metallers Grief Of Emerald are working on a new full length

    Swedish black/death metal metallers Grief Of Emerald have made their first three full length albums available for download from the band’s official website;

Grief Of Emerald has decided to let our three albums Nightspawn, Malformed Seed and Christian Termination free to download. Many fans have asked very much after the albums. And a re-release of the records have not been possible either. We have also tried with spotify and I tunes but it have also been a problem. You will find the Mp3 in the media section.

The band is also working on material for a new full length (their first in 7 years) and have added three demo tracks on their MySpace page.

I didn’t think much of them back in 2000 when Listenable Records sent Malformed Seed to me for review, but that was back before I started appreciating black metal a bit more, so it may be better than I remember.  Either way, there it is, if you’re interested, you now know where to find it.

  • Six Feet Under's Terry Butler to record bass on Obliterhate's debut

Six Feet Under's Terry Butler to record bass on Obliterhate's debut

    Six Feet Under‘s Terry Butler has been called upon to fill in for Dragonlord‘s Derrick Ramirez to record bass on Obliterhate‘s debut full length offering.  Here’s the release from Obliterhate‘s MySpace page;

Due to Derrick Ramirez’s (Dragonlord / ex-Testament) unavoidable hectic schedule, Terry Butler (Six Feet Under / ex-Death / ex-Massacre) will join the ranks of OBLITERHATE and has recently laid down all the bass tracks at John and Donald Tardy’s (Obituary) Redneck Studios for the upcoming debut album Blessing In Disgust.

Comments Terry Butler: “It’s a great honor to be part of something with musicians of this caliber. I would like to thank Calvin for offering me the chance to play bass for OBLITERHATE. He has written some amazing tunes for this release!! Describing the music I would have to say that it is very heavy and riffy. There is a good mix of Thrash and Death metal. The lead work is amazing, the drums are crushing and what else can I say – Dan Swanö on vocals!!!!

I had a lot of fun recording the bass for OBLITERHATE. The bass tracks were recorded at John and Donald Tardy’s Studio – Redneck Studios. If anyone is looking to record I highly recommend using Redneck Studios!”

States OBLITERHATE guitar player Calvin Chiang: “Having such an amazing musician like Terry Butler to be involved in OBLITERHATE was EXACTLY what I needed for this band. Not only Terry had the solid groove nailed down to perfection, his work attitude towards this entire project was more than spectacular! Both of us spent several weeks discussing on the song structures and Terry treated the band like it was his own. He wanted to make sure he got every single note figured out before stepping into the studio. A true masterclass musician in every sense of the word!!! I would have no second thoughts to collaborate with Terry again if the opportunity arises in the future.

John Tardy (Obituary) was responsible for tracking Terry’s bass tracks at their very own Redneck Studios, and I would like to thank John for the total professionalism shown throughout the entire recording and also for the patience in sending over the edited bass tracks. The bass tracks that were laid down sound huge and monstrous! I am definitely very anxious to start working on the album again after a long delay.”

    OBLITERHATE is:

    Calvin Chiang (Raspatul) – Guitars
    Dan Swanö (Nightingale / ex-Edge Of Sanity / ex-Bloodbath) – Vocals
    Terry Butler (Six Feet Under / ex-Death / ex-Massacre) – Bass
Erik Sayenga (Warthrone / ex-Dying Fetus) – Drums
Mirai Kawashima (Sigh / Necrophagia) – Keyboards

    James Murphy (Disincarnate / ex-Death / ex-Testament) – Guest guitar solo
    Jeff Becerra (Possessed) – Lyrics
Rogga Johansson (Paganizer / Demiurg) – Lyrics and vocal arrangements

On paper this line-up sounds pretty fuckin’ good, their MySpace page doesn’t have any demo tracks so it’s hard to say if it’ll live up to the billing, but with the guys involved it could turn out to be a solid release.  Here’s hoping, anyway.

MONSTROSITY SPIRITUAL APOCALYPSE COLOMBIAN TOUR 2009

Aug 16 2009 Ibague, Colombia (Ibague Ciudad Musical de Colombia Festival)
    Aug 17 2009 Bogota, Colombia

Florida’s deadliest monster will make its third trek to Colombia, bringing with them the aggression and pure savage art they are known for. The band plans to perform material covering all points of their nearly 20 year career. Ranging from the earliest Imperial Doom days when George Corpsegrinder was fronting the act all the way through to the current Spiritual Apocalypse disc which is available now on Conquest Music Inc. (US) Metal Blade (Eu).

Monstrosity are one of the few bands I’ve yet to see perform live that I’d like to.  I’ve been a huge fan of theirs since the early 90s, and 2007′s Spiritual Apocalypse may be their best effort to date.  If you haven’t picked it up yet, do it!  Fucking killer album!  This band is so criminally underrated and underappreciated it’s not even funny!

  • Varg Vikernes (aka Count Grishnackh) of Burzum has been released from prison

Varg Vikernes (aka Count Grishnackh) of Burzum has been released from prison

Blabbermouth reports Varg Vikernes, better known as Count Grishnackh of Burzum fame has been released from prison after 16 years after the 1993 murder of Mayhem guitarist Oystein Aarseth (aka Euronymous), setting fire to three churches and escaping prison in 2003.

“I can confirm that I have been released from prison,” Vikernes told Norway’s Dagbladet.

Although his parole application was denied four times — most recently in September 2008 — Vikernes received word in February that he would be released after serving almost 16 years in prison. He was finally allowed to leave a couple of weeks ago, according to Dagbladet.

“I will have to report [to the parole officer] for one year — initially every two weeks, and then once a month,” Vikernes said.

For the past couple of years, Varg had been allowed to leave the prison regularly to walk around Tromsø, Norway (where the prison is located) and visit his family.

Last year it was reported that case workers at the Justice Ministry feared that Vikernes would be unable to adjust to life on the outside after his years in jail.

“I’m ready for society — and I have been for many years,” Vikernes told Dagbladet last July. “I have learned from my mistakes and become older. Now I just want to be together with my family.”

He added, “My mind has never been in prison; I think all the time about what I should do on the day that I am released.

“I have barely seen my son since he came into the world. Even though I hear his voice on the phone almost every day, it is very tough to not be present while he is growing up.

“I miss my family. And I look forward the day that I could work on my farm, create music, write books and be with the wife and kids around the clock — and live a normal life.

“As I respect others, I want others to respect me,” Varg told Varden.no last summer. “We are really quite ordinary people, and we do not want any more attention than anyone else.”

Jackson Rathbone, the teen heartthrob from “Twilight”, has reportedly agreed to play Vikernes in the upcoming movie “Lords Of Chaos”.

Based on Michael Moynihan and Didrik Soderlind’s book of the same name, the film depicts true events and revolves around the black metal sub-culture that spawned a wave of murders and church arsons across Norway in the early 1990s.

Making his English-language debut with “Lords Of Chaos” will be hot Japanese director Sion Sono.

Stuart Pollok of Los Angeles-based Saltire Entertainment, Ko Mori of Eleven Arts and Oh Jungwan of Korea’s Bom Productions are producing the film, which starts shooting in Norway in mid-September.

This fucking halfhead won’t last more than a few months on the outside before he does something else stupid and goes back to jail, guaranteed.  Maybe he’ll do everyone a favor and pull a Jon Nödtveidt.

  • Spawn of Possession post teaser sample from new full length

Spawn of Possession post teaser sample from new full length

Blabbermouth reveals that Swedish technical death metallers Spawn Of Possession have posted a teaser sampler of the song writing process for the album’s next full length studio album.

Swedish technical death metal outfit SPAWN OF POSSESSION has issued the following update:

“The songwriting process has been going quite well these last few months and five new songs are now complete. Seven other songs are in the works.

“We recorded a little pre-production teaser to finally break the silence.

“Additional lineup changes will be announced soon.”

SPAWN OF POSSESSION last year announced the addition of drummer Richard Schill (SHINING, VILE SCAR, LEVEL ABOVE HUMAN), and bassist Erlend Caspersen (BLOOD RED THRONE, THE ALLSEEING I, DEEDS OF FLESH, VILE, INCINERATE, EMETH) to the group’s ranks.

SPAWN OF POSSESSION‘s sophomore album, Noctambulant, was released in 2006 via Neurotic Records. The CD was recorded at Pama Studios in Kristianopel, Sweden with producer Magnus Sedenberg.

    The new track is very rough, but sounds like the band is planning on upping the technicality on this new release.  I’m looking forward to hearing the finished product!  Check it out for yourselves;

Four albums from Sinister's early discography set to be re-issued on Metal Mind Productions

Poland’s Metal Mind Productions have announced they’ll be re-issuing the first four releases from dutch death metallers Sinister; Cross The Styx, Diabolical Summoning, Hate and Bastard Saints.

The reisues will be digitally remastered using 24-bit technology and released on golden discs. Each digipack title is limited to 1,000 copies.

    Cross The Styx bonus tracks:

    13. Barbaric Order (live)
    14. (Enslaved The Weak Intro) (live)
    15. Enslaved The Weak (live)

    Diabolical Summoning bonus tracks:

    09. Into The Forgotten (live)
    10. Bleeding Towards The Wendigo (live)

Hate / Bastard Saints bonus tracks:

    17. Altruistic Suicide (live)

All bonus tracks were recorded live at Stodola Club in Warsaw on August 24, 2006.

Pretty cool news!  If you’ve never heard Sinister, you really are missing out on some classic death metal material!  Metal Mind Productions generally does a pretty good job with these re-issues (they did a killer job with the remastered re-issue of Immolation‘s Dawn Of Possession).  If you don’t already have these discs, definitely pick them up when they’re released July 6th in Europe and August 11th in North America!

  • Jackson Rathbone of Twilight fame is set to play Varg Vikernes in the "Lords Of Chaos" movie

Jackson Rathbone of Twilight fame is set to play Varg Vikernes in the "Lords Of Chaos" movie

    I can’t even make up something this fucking gay and retarded.  Here’s the story from Blabbermouth;

Jackson Rathbone, the teen heartthrob from “Twilight”, has reportedly agreed to play Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh) — the former BURZUM mastermind who is currently serving a Norwegian prison term for the August 1993 murder of MAYHEM guitarist Oystein Aarseth (a.k.a. Euronymous) and setting fire to three churches — in the upcoming movie “Lords Of Chaos”.

When asked why he chose to make the “Lords Of Chaos” movie, Pollok — who was in Cannes this past week to sell the project — told Dagbladet.no, “It’s a fascinating subject, a visually great world and a funny portrait of Norway. Quite possibly, black metal is Norway’s greatest cultural export of the last 20 years.”

Rathbone plays Jasper in Summit’s “Twilight” series and is currently shooting the lead role in M. Night Shyamalan’s $140-million “The Last Airbender” for Paramount Pictures.

In a 2004 statement posted on the Burzum.org web site, Vikernes slammed the “Lord Of Chaos” book as “a pool of mud,” insisting that “the vast majority of all the statements made in this book are either misinterpretations; taken out of context; misunderstandings; malicious lies made by enemies; a result of ignorance; extreme exaggerations; and/or third-hand information at best. This includes the statements attributed to me!” He went on to say, “This book serves only one single purpose and that is to create a myth around my name and to mystify me. If that was their objective they have indeed succeeded with their work. Well, the book seems to have served one other purpose too. The authors have managed to fill the heads of a generation of metal fans with lies. What could have been a righteous revolt has been made into some pathetic, embarrassing, brain-dead, impotent and traditional poser-culture best exemplified by bands like DIMMU BORGIR — and indeed VENOM!”

If we’re all lucky, Varg will be released from prison soon and kill them all and save the world from future gay vampire movies.  Maybe he could also kill himself while he’s at it so we don’t have to keep listening to his idiotic rants.

  • Vader complete work on "Necropolis"

    Vader complete work on "Necropolis"

    Polish death metallers Vader have finished their latest full length offering, Necropolis, due out in late August on Nuclear Blast Records, reports Blabbermouth;

Polish death metallers VADER will release their new album, Necropolis, in late August via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Hertz studios in Bialystok, Poland with the Wieslawski Bros.. Tue Madsen, who previously worked with such bands as MOONSPELL, CATARACT, HEAVEN SHALL BURN and many more, mixed the CD at his Antfarm Studios in Denmark.

Commented VADER guitarist/vocalist Piotr “Peter” Wiwczarek: “Monday, May 18 is the day when the new album, Necropolis, was finished!!! The last act of the process was a flight to Aarhus in Denmark and my visit at AntFarm Studio. During next two days me and Tue were working on the character of new record and some details in the mix. Next days are Tue Madsen’s solitary work in silence of his studio. The result is tremendous!!! New songs sound powerful and still mysterious. The cover art (created by Jacek Wisniewski, who created the art for previous VADER albums Black To The Blind, Revelations and The Beast) being so much different than previous works is so magical as well. The whole graphics fulfill the music on the album.

“It will contain 11 songs, 33 minutes and 33 seconds of real breath of chaos. There are two bonus tracks on special edition, which are classics in metal, also big part of HQ footage from VADER charity show in Krakow, which was our help for Covan (DECAPITATED singer Adrian Kowanek, who was seriously injured on November 2, 2007 in a Russian road collision) and his recovery after serious car accident.”

Necropolis tentative track listing (not final):

    01. Devilized
    02. Rise Of The Undead
    03. Never Say My Name
    04. Dark Heart
    05. Blast
    06. Impure
    07. We Are Horde
    08. Anger
    09. When The Sun Drowns In Dark
    10. The Sigil
    11. Dei Nostri
    12. Summoning The Futura

Necropolis will mark the recording debut of VADER‘s new lineup:

    Piotr “Peter” Wiwczarek (guitar, vocals)
    Reyash (bass)
    Waclaw “Vogg” Kieltyka (DECAPITATED) (guitar)
    Pawel Jaroszewicz (SOUL SNATCHER) (drums)

Commented Piotr “Peter” Wiwczarek: “The title of the album — which is the very first VADER song ever — is chosen not by chance. It will be connected with recordings like De Profundis or Litany with themes of forgotten worlds, mythos or ancient powers still living in humans subconsciousness.”

In early September, VADER will kick off a tour of their home country in support of Necropolis. The Polish leg of the tour will consist of approximately 12-13 shows in some of the country’s biggest cities. Every concert will be preceded by a fan meet-and-greet at the EMPik chain of stores. The trek will be a continuation of VADER‘s Blitzkrieg tour formula from the previous years. At the end of September, VADER will invade the rest of the European continent as part of a two-month tour with Swedish black metallers MARDUK.

I look forward to new Vader material almost as much as I look forward to being hit in the face with a board with a nail in it.  I applaud their longevity and their willingness to keep marching forward, but they are, by far, one of the most boring bands in all of metal.  I’m sure this album will sell okay though and they’ll make just enough money to do it all over again next year.  Ungh…

  • Celtic Frost's Tom Gabriel Fischer signs book publishing deal

Celtic Frost's Tom Gabriel Fischer signs book publishing deal

    Tom Gabriel Fischer (aka Tom Warrior) of Celtic Frost, Hellhammer and Triptykon has announced he’ll be releasing a book detailing the early history of Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, according to his blog;

Work on Triptykon‘s first album was temporarily and somewhat rudely interrupted early last week, when I was forced to check into the hospital late at night to have my appendix removed in emergency surgery the next day. Only a little more than 24 hours after the operation, however, I was back at my home to welcome New York-based publisher and friend Ian Christe of Bazillion Points Books. Canceling this meeting was not an option I wished to consider, so I persuaded the doctors in charge to release me much earlier than intended.

So on May 14, 2009, Ian and I at last signed the publishing contract for Only Death Is Real, the detailed and lavishly illustrated history of Hellhammer and early Celtic Frost. The book is due to be published this fall, and this is the culmination of what by now amounts to a good four years of investment, research, writing, and design. All of the former main members of Hellhammer – Steve Warrior, Bruce Day, Martin Eric Ain, and Stephen Priestly – have been involved in this project, along with the primary Hellhammer/Shizo/Celtic Frost photographers of 1983/1984 – Martin Kyburz, Andreas Schwarber, and Csaba Kézér.

It was good to see Ian, and we subsequently pondered further potential joint projects. Then, yesterday evening, I finally met with Triptykon bassist Vanja Slajh again in order to continue songwriting and practice sessions for the album.

And yet all of above doesn’t even cover half of what has been taking place here these past two weeks or so.

Bazillion Points Books is the book company that also published Swedish Death Metal by Daniel Ekeroth.  Could be an interesting read… at worst at least there will be pictures to look at.

  • Suffocation have released a sample track from their upcoming "Blood Oath" full length

Suffocation have released a sample track from their upcoming "Blood Oath" full length

New York death metal legends Suffocation have posted a teaser sampler from the band’s upcoming 6th full length offering, Blood Oath, on their MySpace page.

The album is set to be released in Europe on July 3rd and in North America on July 14th on Nuclear Blast Records, midway through the band’s upcoming appearance on this year’s Summer Slaughter tour, featuring Necrophagist, Decrepit Birth and a bunch of bands I can’t even begin to give a shit about.

The new track is pretty damn solid and I’m definitely looking forward to the new full length.  Sounds more like old school Suffocation, which is fine by me!

Blood Oath will be available in two packaged formats, a standard 12-track album and a special mail order “blood-red” mailorder edition that will feature a red jewel case, limited edition shirt, trading cards, poster signed by the band and a red Suffocation bag to store it all in.  Kind of corny, but… fuck it, I’ll be buying that anyway.  I’m also hitting the Summer Slaughter tour when it hits here.  Last time Suffocation was here I spent most of my night in the can pissing up a storm because I decided to start drinking watered down beer… heavily.  This time I actually hope to see them and remember it the next morning… well… that’s the plan anyway…
