Released just weeks after their EP debut, Grind Musick For Giallo Maniacs, Spain’s Altar Of Giallo are back with their full length offering, A Bloodfeast For The Dead.  Consisting of Repugnant’s Miguel Distorsion on lead guitars, Gruesome Stuff Relish’s Noel Kemper handling guitars, vocals and drum machine programming and Superbullits‘ Daniel Olivar on bass and backing vocals, this trio of demented freaks unleash some of the most sickening Giallo-movie inspired death metal and goregrind you’re likely to come across.

The material on A Bloodfeast For The Dead picks up right where Grind Musick For Giallo Maniacs left off unleashing 12 tracks of disgusting death/grind/gore in the vein of Gruesome Stuff Relish fused with Impetigo, early Carcass and Rottrevore.  The guitars have a thick, down tuned and slightly distorted sound, with some killer old school death metal riffs mixed with Carcass-style grinding.  The vocals of Noel and Daniel are among the sickest and frightening you’ll ever here as they use a truly demented raspy snarl-style that’ll send chills down your spine.  The drum machine is programmed expertly as it sounds natural, the only way I know there is no drummer is by checking the CD booklet, otherwise I’d have just assumed it was Paulo Deadato from Gruesome Stuff Relish playing behind a real drum kit.

The song writing is rather simplistic, these guys aren’t going to blow you away with technical riffs, or brutal breakdowns, they’re just going to rev up some chainsaw riffs and shred right through your fucking head.  My only semi-complaint is the album didn’t contain another slow, raspy, eerie-as-fuck track like “Amazonia: The Catherine Miles Story” from Grind Musick For Giallo Maniacs, which is probably the coolest death/grind/gore song ever recorded.  Regardless, the material here is mean, nasty, easy to get into and a blast to listen to.

The production for this effort is perfect for this style of music.  The material has a very dark, nearly doom metal atmosphere, which gives the album as a whole an eerie vibe, especially combined with the guitar tone, vocal style and the generally slow-paced tracks.

The booklet has a really cool horror/zombie/giallo theme where they’ve made a collage of movie posters inside and out with a very old-school looking poster design for the cover by Maxi Zeballos.  The packaging just fits the theme and the music perfectly.

Once again, Altar Of Giallo impress with their twisted take on old school death metal and goregrind.  They’re not the most original band around, nor the most talented, but if you’re a fan of Gruesome Stuff Relish, Machetazo, Impetigo, Rottrevore, early Carcass and the like, you’ll definitely love A Bloodfeast For The Dead!  Highly recommended for fans of Razorback Records’ most recent releases!

What is the genre Death Gore is it short for Death Gore Grind or is it short for Death Gore Metal.

Short for death metal and goregrind. I guess I probably should have just written it as “death metal / goregrind”.

So then the Brutal Death Gore genre label thats on the Disgorge (Mex) – Gore Blessed To The Worms and Putrescence (Can) – Dawn Of The Necrofecalizer album reviews would be short for Brutal Death Metal / Gore Grind so would another way of shortening Death Metal / Gore Grind be calling it Death Gore Grind since its more Grind than Metal and if thats the case why on other reviews on this site you guys shorten the Death Gore Grind genre label to the Death Gore genre label if its the same thing. Also what about the Death Grind Gore genre label you guys put on the Machetazo reviews and the Cyber Gore genre label that you put on the Gigantic Brain – The Invasion Discography review whats that short for and is there such thing as Gore Metal as an actual genre label I know that a Horror Metal genre label exists after reading the review of the Zombie Death Stench – Here I Die…Zombified album on this site. One more question whats up with the Death Grind Noise genre label that you guys put on the Human Remains – Where Were You When compilation review is it actually more Noise music than Death Grind music.

You’ve given this way too much thought.

Agreed. A whole album of songs like “Amazonia” would be borderline genius.

This album fucking destroys. Fans of GSR and horror metal in general will eat this up.
