Jesus, when did Anthrax decide to down-tune their guitars and do death metal? I knew they had the Belladonna re-union stint in the works, but Christ, I thought it would be old tunes as they were originally performed, not re-dux versions. Why wasn’t this covered in the metal media anywhere? Oh wait, that’s because this isn’t Anthrax.

Poland’s favorite old school black metal act turned semi-decent death metal monster is back with another album, complete with blatant thrash rip-off! Thievery aside, Demigod is actually a pretty decent album. The sound is more akin to a lesser Nile/Morbid Angel clone anally thrusting the rectal cavity of Zyklon with a very fucking cool set of vocals. Nergal can belt out fucking death growls, even if he does look like the biggest shit guzzling stylish male since the duo of Siegfried and Roy decided to consummate their relationship with their male tigers. The riffs and solos aren’t going to win any awards for originality (as the third song will attest), but it’s decent songwriting and arrangement. Then you have "Be All End All"… errr… I mean "Conquer All" with its very familiar opening; Jesus, I’m sure Scott Ian and company could probably sue for that. You’d think if they were going to lift something, they wouldn’t choice something that insanely recognizable.

It’s nothing really commendable in the long run, but it’s good decent death metal. Give it a shot or two at a used record store; it probably will satiate most. Though I do wonder if buying the album will encourage them to rip off more Anthrax…
