Few albums make me truly bloodthirsty, but listening to Bile’s Camp Blood, based around the Friday The 13th series of films, gives me urges to sharpen my axe and dust off my hockey mask. Granted, I wouldn’t make a very good homicidal maniac as the only Jason Voorhees mask I have glows in the dark and my victims would be able to see me from a mile away, but still, the music commands me to grab that axe and dream of what could be.
Bile consists of three maniacs, two of whom are better known for their work in Inhume. Thankfully, Bile sound nothing like Inhume and are actually a very capable and vicious goregrind outfit who sound like a twisted Mortician-Cock And Ball Torture-Last Days Of Humanity hybrid, with their hacktastic groove and overall generic goregrind approach.
Though they sound similar to many bands in the genre with their low tuning, chunky crushing riffs, pitch shifted vocals and blastathon drumming the music they compose is surprisingly fun and violent enough to get your head bobbing like a chicken eating its feed before the farmer swings his mighty axe sending the headless fowl running aimlessly.
Bile certainly aren’t redefining the goregrind genre with Camp Blood, as they often sound like every other goregrind you’ve ever heard before, but they certainly do write entertaining music that’ll leave you punching your kid brother in the head should he be foolish enough to enter your bedroom while this is blasting on your stereo. I’m sure he’s a little shit head, so I won’t judge you for it.
The artwork for this effort is simply awesome, how can you go wrong with cover art that looks like a Friday The 13th movie poster? Speaking of which, you’re able to buy the album from No Escape Records with a poster of the album cover, which looks pretty badass and would fit in perfectly between your Dawn Of The Dead and Nightmare On Elm Street posters cluttering your bedroom wall. Fucking nerd.
If you love everything No Escape has put out to date you’ll be hammering nails into your ball sack in twisted glee upon hearing Camp Blood. To truly appreciate this album you need to listen to it while muting any of the Friday The 13th flick and you’ll be amazed by how perfectly it would work as the movies’ actual soundtrack. A bloody good time.
