Not many people know this but I was originally supposed to release this album instead of Paragon Records. Unfortunately, I’m a fucking retard and wound up unemployed for a few months and had to pass on the opportunity. Upon hearing the final version of The Space Between Home And Today I feel like kicking myself in the teeth for having dropped the ball.

Biolich deliver six tracks of East Coast grinding insanity in the same vein as their 2004 promo release, including two tracks re-recorded from the aforementioned release. When I first heard the re-recorded tracks, "Morals Like Frozen Piss" and "Extensive Autumn Necrony" I hated it because I loved the original recordings so much, but, after giving the album a few spins it grew on me and I find myself enjoying the re-recordings far more than the originals.

The majority of the music on The Space Between Home And Today sounds like an even mix of ear shredding East Coast grind like Circle Of Dead Children and Pig Destroyer mixed with the melody of Human 2.0-era Nasum. For every moment of melody there’s an equal or greater part of sheer violent grinding.

I find that when I listen to the tracks "Morals Like Frozen Piss" and "Twin Faced Exorcism" on my iPod while walking around downtown that I actually sometimes start screaming along to the music sending children and the elderly running to the other side of the street in terror of the deranged screaming white man. These Tourrette-like outbursts are evened out by the melodic approach Biolich take on "Extensive Autumn Necrony", but return with a vengeance to the simplistic old school death grinding of "Unfortunately…"

Like their 2004 promo The Space Between Home And Today contains a strangely emotive electronic track. "Ikon Sumo" is similar to "Stol Vapre" from the promo in that it’s a very gentle, peaceful, tranquil song that’s eerily calming as it sits sandwiched between two of the most intense and violent tracks on the album. The song sounds like a weird hybrid between a track from A Clockwork Orange soundtrack and music for a boss-fight in some 90s video game. A lot of people may be put off by melodic electronica on a grind album but as strange as it sounds it somehow fits perfectly.

I can honestly say that Biolich’s The Space Between Home And Today is one of the most impressive debut releases I’ve heard in a long time and will appeal to a broad range of music fans. The grindcore is top-notch, the melody is fantastic and the electronica is better than anything else of the style I’ve heard. This is an album I can honestly say I would have been very proud to release, and that’s saying a lot. Get it, and get it now.
