Bodies Lay Broken
Discursive Decomposing Disquisitions of Moldered Malapropisms and Sedulous Solecisms 2000-2002

Genre:GrindcoreFormat:CDTracks:27
Label:One Percent RecordsYear:2005

Ever since I heard their full length, I’ve fell in love with the Japanese-obsessed, Carcass worshiping Bodies Lay Broken. Their brand of relentless, disgusting, horrific grindcore was fucking brutal and more importantly extremely satisfying. Listening to Bodies Lay Broken is like having a gas powered sledge hammer driven through your temple in a Texas slaughter house. I think I remember describing them as what Carcass would have sounded like if they didn’t go into their more melodic phase and were feed an ass load of PCP (I might not have said that last bit, but hell it’s more accurate now and fuck if I’m going to check).

This release is a discography piece, picking up all their covers, splits, EP, and demo material from 2000 to 2002. For the most part, the music is exactly the same as it was on the full length, which is not at all a bad thing. Much like Bolt Thrower and Deeds of Flesh, Bodies Lay Broken is one of the few bands that can repeat themselves and get away with it because- fuck- they write damn good material. The only catch unfortunately is that the production of said material is nowhere near as static. It varies from heavy and dense to a lighter, more raspy sound as you get further. Outside of reasons of flow and continuity, however, the production is hardly anything to stop someone from picking up this release.

If you call yourself a fan of grindcore and do not already own this or the Bodies Lay Broken full length, you need to get your ass in gear. The fuckers may be on hold for now, but maybe seeing their material fly off the self will force them to get together more often. Man, I would have loved to seen their Maryland Deathfest performance.
