Butcher ABC
Butchered At Birth Day

Genre:Death GoreFormat:mCDTracks:5
Label:Obliteration RecordsYear:2003

Leave it to the Japanese to take a foreign concept and make it even better. Butcher ABC consists of ex-Maggoty Corpse and CSSO members who belt forth 14 minutes of ultra tasty maggot-encrusted burptastic goregrind on this mCD from Japan’s Obliteration Records. The music is up tempo goregrind vaguely reminiscent of bands like GUT, early Cenotaph (mex) and Sanitys Dawn. Butchered At Birth Day begins with a minute and a half intro that can only be described as "Hell Awaits" goregrind style, which then leads into the remaining twelve and a half minutes of ridiculously down tuned gore. The band have a unique sound, with riffing often sounding like gorerock in the vein of Blood Duster mixed with up tempo Melvins, the vibe is just really weird, really catchy and ridiculously heavy. Drumming is solid, but not overpowering, with no unnecessary blasting, just a solid steady beat to match the guitars, and the thick sludgy bass lines. Vocals range from subhuman gurgle to throaty shrieks with both styles complimenting one another, along with the music. While the band isn’t easy to describe, my opinion of them is very simple; this is the best goregrind I’ve heard from Japan since Catasexual Urge Motivation, in fact, due to the catchiness factor alone it may very well be better. Bottom line is this is some great stuff. If you dig South American and German-influenced goregrind, this is definitely a worthy pick-up. I can’t wait for their debut full length to be released on Razorback Records!
