Hailing from the land of wine, hairy women, and berets come Paris’ Carnal Lust with a new four track release, Rebirth In Hate. I’d never heard of the band before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but judging by the rather lame looking artwork I figured whatever it was it was probably going to suck. And suck it does. Carnal Lust are basically one of those bands who can’t seem to decide what style of music they’re wanting to play, most of the time they sound like they want to be yet another Swedish melodic death-wanna be, sometimes they sound like they want to be a monotonously brutal Dutch death metal band, sometimes they sound like they want to be a Florida death metal band, sometimes they sound like they want to be a Polish death metal speed machine, all of the time they sound like they spent too little time trying to write something original and unique and instead just took bits and pieces from different albums by different bands, mashed it all together and tried to pass it off as something new and creative. The most annoying aspect about the band is that they’re obviously talented, and they have the potential to come up with something interesting, but instead wasted their time in rehearsal trying to sound like every band they like, rather than trying to pick a certain style and stick with it. The album is simply one of the most unimaginative things I’ve heard in a very long time, which is a shame considering the production is actually pretty good. I could go on, but considering I wasted 15 minutes listening to the CD, which they probably spent 20 minutes writing, I can’t be bothered to waste an equal, or greater, amount of time reviewing it. Now I’m going to go take a shit, I suggest you all do the same.
