Some bands and labels are simply made for each other. United Guttural is a label that provides the vast world that is the underground with no frills death-grind. Without any knowledge of the band, one could merely examine the U.G. stamp and know what you are in for. Now, is this a bad thing? Well, it depends on taste. If blasting madness is your steamy cup of urine, than this band is for you.

Dead For Days slides nicely into the United Guttural roster. This is fast, off the wall, death metal with deep, harsh vocals, blasting drums, and shredding guitars. Among the frequent blasting is a few breakdowns that have a heavy nod towards hardcore. I have given this disc quite a few listens yet the songs refuse to grow on me. Its heavy stuff indeed but the songs lack memorableness, so to speak. By this, I mean that the songs just lack that something to make them worthy of frequent listens or the type of song you can hum while shopping for deodorant. The music reminds me of Gorgasm, Incestuous, the first HatePlow album, even a bit of early Origin. I am refusing to place this band as a clone of any other, rather just another band in a sea of this type of death metal. With the recent rise in popularity of heavier music, bands are going to have to try a lot harder to make themselves standout among the rest. Like Dionne Warwick, I see potential in this band, just a need for more stand-out songs. Is it hard to write memorable classics like Gut’s "Cripple Bitch"? Of course, but there has to be a focus on songwriting rather than trying to out-blast every other band. This album is a worthy purchase for those who enjoy the aforementioned bands and Americanized versions of bands like Pyaemia and Disavowed. For the rest of us, we can wait for the next release or wait for my poor ass to buy it and review their next disc. Your choice, holy man!
