The masters of metal have returned to serve us up something to get us ready for their next full length. Behind The Mourner’s Veil is another chapter in the thrashaholic book whose first chapters go back to the year 1985. A solid EP that gives us three new tracks and some cover tunes by Anthrax, D.R.I, Warfare and Tankard. Also included is a video for the song "Elly’s Dementia" from their classic release from last year, Supernatural Addiction. One thing I really love about this release is the sincerity this band has for it’s love for metal. Their live shows are proof enough, but they actually give explanations on why they covered certain songs and what it means to them. The new tunes also have brief summaries about them, I really like this idea and wish more bands would put in their own words WHY they felt a need to cover a track or write a song about something. As far as the music is concerned, there are no surprises when it comes to Deceased. They have a formula for thrashing us to death, and they don’t break it. To be honest, I’m really glad they stick to that formula because it works. King’s got a tad to much reverb on the vocals for my taste, but over all the recording is passable. Their cover of "Reaganomics" (D.R.I.) had me banging my head in the car as I drove home listening. My neck will be sore for weeks because I plan on listening to this album full of headbanging tracks! I have yet to be let down by these metal merauders, and I doubt I ever will be.
