Every time I find out Deeds Of Flesh are releasing a new album, I notice the bulge in my boxers grow just a tad bit more. I won’t bother trying to hide it or deny it, I am a huge Deeds Of Flesh fan, and since their inception in 1993, they have come to embody all that is brutal, even creating their own record label to release their own albums, and albums of bands they enjoy who play the same intense style. The difference between Deeds Of Flesh and the rest of the bands on their roster is; while the other bands tend to generally, well… suck, and suck hard, you know you can depend on Erik Lindmark and Jacoby Kingston to bring the goods every single time. For those of you who don’t know who they are, you’re probably looking at the wrong website and should be out looking at InMyAss.com instead. Regardless, Deeds Of Flesh are a technical brutal death metal act from California that employ a vicious dual vocal assault, with shrieking highs and guttural lows, blazing triggered-to-fuck drumming and tight solid riffing. Reduced To Ashes marks the second album the band has recorded as a three-piece with former Vile drummer Mike Hamilton, after going through a slew of drummers and second guitarists, quickly entering Malevolent Creation, Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation territory for being unable to keep a solid line-up for any length of time. Amazingly, the band sound better as a trio than they did as a quartet, sounding both tighter and louder than ever before. Deeds Of Flesh have basically become the Bolt Thrower of brutal technical death metal; you know what you’re getting every time they enter the studio, regardless of the line-up. Either you’re a huge fan and love everything they do, or you hate it, there’s really no in-between. Personally, I love it and look forward to their next release sometime in 2004.
