From the land of teenage tennis stars, chocolate and army knives comes Switzerland’s newest great export; old school thrashing grinding death metal in the form of Embalming Theatre. These guys were obviously heavily influenced by Hideous Mangleus, Impetigo, Mortician, Hemdale, Repulsion and even Blood with their sadistically sloppy barrage of chainsaw shredding riffs, machinegun drumming and deep raspy vocals. The music this group come up with is simple no-frills kick-in-the-nuts-with-an-uppercut-to-your-guts old school infectiously groovy pummeling death metal that’ll leave even the most hardened critics (ie. me) pumping their fists in the air and Barney Greenway ostrich-marching with arms flailing every-which-way in uncontrollable gory bliss. The blasts leave me with a mental image of Mick Harris on speed in mind, with arms, legs and head smashing about at breakneck speeds while the riffmeisters shred away. There is no technicality. There are no minute-long wanky solos. There are no pit riffs. There is only sloppy gore splattered here, there and everywhere. This release is just straight-up fun to listen to and is quickly becoming a regular listen of mine. If you love your death metal old school sloppy and gory, this will make your nuts swell in your little flesh basket. Don’t fret, there’s plenty of Embalming Theatre to go around, as they’ve put out nearly, if not more than, 20 releases to date, mostly in the form of split 7", but still… good luck tracking it all down, and if you do, be sure to share, fucker!
