Upon reading the band’s bio I came to the quick realization that Finland’s Enter My Silence are yet another Scandinavian melodic death rock acts. I have to be honest, that entire sub genre of metal got old a long time ago. The only band who’ve pulled it off and made it sound even remotely appealing is At The Gates. Enter My Silence are basically on par with the majority of Swedish melodic death metal acts, similar rhythms, grooves, tunings, drumming patterns, vocals and riffs. There isn’t a whole heck of a lot new here, however, even in this highly unoriginal and uninteresting sub-genre, Enter My Silence seem to somehow make things at least slightly interesting. The music is pretty well written and well performed. The vocals of Funeris Nocturnum singer Mikko Kotamaki is probably what helps the music sound more interesting than it really is, his gravel throated approach complements the music perfectly. Unfortunately, his vocals alone don’t help set Enter My Silence apart from the rest of the In Flames/Dark Tranquility clones plaguing the Scandinavian metal scene. I view this band in the same light as Portugal’s Malevolence, they’re not as watered down as In Flames of today, but are far from being in the same league as At The Gates. If you’re truly a fan of the Swedish melodic death-thrash sound, check out At The Gates, the rest of their clones are little more than average background music. Remotecontrolled Scythe isn’t the greatest melodic album, but far from the worst. Fans of older In Flames should love this.
