satan… Satan… SSSSSSSAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!! Although not quite as powerful as Eric Cartman’s love of beefcake, Enthroned’s love of Satan and hate for Christianity is quite apparent in their CD artwork, lyrics and image. Such is their hatred for Christianity that drummer Cernunnos committed suicide before the recording of the CD due to his disgust in the Christianity-ridden world. In other words, intelligent thought isn’t what one should expect from Enthroned, however, surprisingly enough, on the whole they’re actually not that bad. The hateful aggression displayed on their Towards The Skullthrone Of Satan CD is performed quite skillfully by bassist/vocalist Sabathan, guitarists Nornagest and Nebiros and session drummer Da Cardoen. Songs such as "The Ultimate Horde Fights", "Evil Church" and (I’m not making this last title up) "When Horny Flames Begin To Rise" are a perfect blend of violent aggression, good musicianship, powerful vocals and competent drumming. The remaining songs tend to lapse into Dark Funeral-esque monotony, never ending blast beats and very little difference from song to song. The CD does feature backing vocals from one of the father’s of black metal; Venom’s Cronos on two of the albums weakest tracks "Satan’s Realm" and "Hertogenwald". While not being the most original band, nor the most musically astounding, they are a solid group worth giving a listen to if you’re into all of that ‘anti-Christianity, hail Satan while wearing spikes and clown make up’ stuff, hell, even if you’re not, you might dig them anyway. If I can find something nice to say about them, anyone else should be able to love ‘em. Good solid effort.
