Entrails
Serpent Seed

Genre:Black MetalFormat:CDTracks:11
Label:Leviathan RecordsYear:1999

Entrails is one of the side bands of Root guitarist Blackosh, and is truly great slab of well-produced black metal with its own character. Every aspect of Entrails is expertly done, from great drumming to wonderful riffage and strong vocals. This has been in my CD player extremely often, and it is always very fresh and interesting.

The music is just black metal with some heavy metal influence, but not easily compared to other bands out there. Blackosh definitely has his own riffing style, apparent in the Root and Crux material which he plays, and that definitely shines through here. Every riff is interesting and fitting. The vocals sort of remind me of the late Exorcist, but they also retain a more traditional black metal feel. There are a few King Diamond/old Sarcofago falsettos to be found as well, and they are great! I’ve always loved Wagner Antichrist’s falsetto screams in the Sarcofago material, and of course King Diamond is one of the greatest metal warriors ever to perform – conversely, Entrails has recorded one of the best albums I’ve heard in an extremely long time with Serpent Seed.

The bonus covers are very well done. Exorcist‘s "Black Mass" sounds totally ripping and very faithfully emulates the original. Crux, a project of Blackosh dating from 1990 (and currently available on CD through Leviathan Records), is represented here, as well as an early Root song from their first opus Zjeveni. They are a testament to the true metal spirit of Blackosh, and Entrails‘ own material drips with this same true metal spirit.

Ruling: Black metal for all metalheads. Wonderful!
