Never heard of Exmortem? You’re not alone. Since their inception in 1992 the band has released two full length albums, Labyrinths Of Horror and Dejected In Obscurity on Denmark’s Euphonious/Voices Of Wonder Records, and I think it’s safe to say you’ve probably never heard of either of those labels either. Due to the complete lack of promotion and distribution by their labels, the band has decided to venture on their own looking for a new label to sign them up and hopefully give them a much better chance than they’ve received so far. With their 1998 promo, I think it’s safe to say they’ve probably got a contract signed by now, unless the underground labels are completely insane (considering a lot of the horrible bands being signed and the great ones being passed over, it really wouldn’t surprise me). The tape contains three tracks of skull crushing brutality. There are no frills to this release, this is just straight ahead heaviness with one of the best double vocal combinations I’ve heard in a while, on par with the likes of Deeds Of Flesh or Deaden, sickeningly low guttural gurgles with a high and pronounced screech, all done by vocalist Lonne. The drumming has a very tight sound with a constant double beat, but done at a speed that’s not even remotely annoying. The guitars slice through the tracks in a dark and brutal manner with only "In The Name Of Massacretion" containing any soloing. It’s not the most original music ever recorded, but it’s solid, heavy and easy to get into, which is what the majority of metal fans will appreciate. Try looking up their older releases, sounds to me like it may be worth the search.
