Powerviolence Grind Crust
Whoa. Who shit in these guys’ cornflakes before they entered the studio? Holland’s Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition plays some of the angriest and nastiest powerviolence/punk/grind/hard/crust you’re likely to come across. Formed as a Suppository/Last Days Of Humanity side project under the name I: Scream Protest by Suppository/new Leng Tch’e front man Boris Cornelissen in 2002, the group changed names when Boris could no longer commit time to the project. The current line-up are no strangers to the European undergrind scene, consisting of Maggots vocalist Luc Favié and drummer Paul Niessen, former Suppository guitarist Mark Verkuijlen and former Last Days Of Humanity bassist/guitarist Bas Van Geffen. The music on Justification Of Criminal Behaviour can simply be described in a single word; angry. The material sounds somewhat similar to grindcore acts like Benümb fused with early Napalm Death if you were to repeatedly kick each member in the balls, slap them in the face while calling them "Fatty Queercakes." before sending them into the studio. Beginning to end, the material is fast, furious and straight up pissed off. They don’t seem to have wasted any time trying to learn how to play their instruments, playing fast and screaming loudly is the only thing they seem to care about. The music itself is decent, nothing ground breaking or earth shattering, and generally pretty typical of angry powerviolence/grindcore with a lot of relentless and mindless blasts, short choppy riffs, with super short songs with the entire 22 track album clocking in at around a minute a song. While the music is tolerable, the tri-vocal assault by Favié and both guitarists is painful, and not in a good way. One member belts out in a deep hardcore bellow, one guy screams like an insane Dutchman wandering around the Red Light District trying to score some blow and the other just yells, and, unfortunately, they tend to do all three at the same time a lot. I’m sorry, but group vocals are just fucking lame, I don’t care which band it is, and when one of the vocalists is so fucking annoying you just want to step on his throat and listen to him choke, it becomes a chore to listen to the entire release beginning to end. On the whole, this release is average grindcore at best. I can name a few hundred grindcore bands that are superior to F.U.B.A.R. in every regard, but at the same time, I can name a few hundred more that are infinitely worse. If you’re big into grinding powerviolence, then this may be something for you, but I personally doubt I’ll be listening to this again any time soon, if ever.
