Fuck yes. You ever hear that record of sheer brutality that keeps your head swinging around in ways that anatomy never intended and causes you to go into ballistic bouts of utter rage and pandemonium? Yeah, those moments of absolute metal extremity are rare. Way too often you hear people rave about how X band is brutal or how Y band is the heaviest thing they’ve ever heard, yet when you go to listen to them the pure animosity that is spoken of is practically absent. I can’t tell you how many times I hear about how amazingly violent the new Bleeding Through record is. No kiddies, that’s not brutal, that’s not heavy, and it most certainly isn’t violent.

Gadget, on the other hand, supplies the goods. When we last heard from these Swedish grind freaks on Remote, they were courting a heavy Nasum influence but still managed to put out an awesomely intense slab of purely vitriolic grindcore. Now 2006 sees the return of Gadget with The Funeral March and the fuckheads are still coming into the recording studio with assault rifles fully loaded, taking out every fucking thing they can see. The Nasum influence is still present, but they’ve toned it down a bit to lean a little more heavily on the death/grind spectrum of intensity. Imagine the less chaotic moments of Circle of Dead Children or a less technical Sadis Euphoria, mixed with the sense of rhythm and vocal dynamic of Nasum, and you’ll be close to the sound that is Gadget. In addition, Gadget seems to be following the trend of Kill the Client and fellow countrymen Crowpath by incorporating a few influences of slow, brooding doom. There’s very little filler and "The Anchor"- while reminiscing of Nasum- is a hard-hitting assault of pure power. Fucking excellent.

Gadget has come around a second time, yet again proving themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the extreme metal scene. If you even remotely like grind, The Funeral March is a must.
