If there’s anything Australians do well, it’s drinking, complaining in silly accents and grinding. When I found out about the demo of Australia-based goregrinders Garbage Guts being available for download from their website, I figured it may be worth checking out; especially considering Pierre from Braindead Zine gushed over the material from their 4-track demo a few months back. I have to admit, I’m pretty impressed. The material they play is catchy up-tempo choppy goregrind, reminiscent of mid-90s Regurgitate with a more death metal riffing style, with plenty of meaty riffs and chop-blasts with a Last Days Of Humanity pitch shift. The songs are short, fast and heavier than a Roseanne Barr, Kirstie Alley and Rosie O’Donnell three-way. The production on this is pretty god-awful, but what do you expect for a 4-track demo, although I still find it kind of strange that the live and rehearsal tracks sound better than 4-track stuff, but oh well. It’s just a matter of time before these Aussie poopfiends get signed, if they aren’t already, and record something in a proper studio and, personally, I can’t wait. With bands like Fuck…I’m Dead, The Day Everything Became Nothing, Vaginal Carnage, Captain Cleanoff and now Garbage Guts, it’s no wonder the Aussies are taking a leading role in the worldwide grind scene. Now if only the Australians could do something about those chazzwazzers and public bootings…
