I probably should not be reviewing this because I don't have the slightest idea of what comprises good black metal. I have all the staples by Emperor, Mayhem, Arcturus, and the likes but I am not sure if these bands truly define black metal, at least in the underground cult sense. Goat Semen spurts out 12 tracks of lo-fi black metal in its absolute rawest sense. This is some powerful stuff and I can't tell if I am blown away musically or horrified. The vocalist has to be the angriest guy I have ever heard since some guy at Nathan's got a chicken-cheesesteak instead of a Philly cheesesteak. He often wails and screams in the bizzarest sense. This entire album was recorded live and although there are quite a few live albums that have a better sound, I think it would have taken away from the nastiness of the band. The songs are barely decipherable but it adds to the horrific nature of the album. It is like forty minutes of being hit with a bat with a squirrel on the end of it. The drummer is quite fast and hits hard, considering the quality of the recording.

This band has to be a cult favorite. I am sure that they have a good amount of loyal fans and I am sure that they already have this. If you like this type of black metal, this is your cup of black tea. I have one word to describe this type of music – abrasive. You also have to take into account that I might be too scared to say anything negative about the band. Time to get splashed!
