Holland’s God Dethroned’s second Metal Blade release is much like their ‘97 album The Grand Grimoire; unimpressive, unoriginal and boring. I won’t even attempt to candy coat the facts here, I honestly don’t think much of this quartet. Their music is grindy death-thrash with guttural black metal vocals. The music is rather simplistic, just repeating the same riff over and over with a boring double blast beat through-out and off-rhythm vocals. They just seem to be 50% poor Carcass clone and 50% Swedish black/death metal wanna-be. In their bio they compare their aggression to Slayer’s Reign In Blood, and I’d just like to state for the record what a crock of shit that is. God Dethroned are about as evil and aggressive as a Teletubbie, and twice as annoying. If you want over hyped and overrated metal, check out Bloody Blasphemy, if you want to check out something good, pick up someone else’s CD. What a waste of paper and plastic.
