Here we have the latest from one of Norway’s most elite black metal bands. This album truly shows the new face of black metal and what direction I hope it continues to move in. Eight absolutely brilliant tracks of vicious metal which takes you through every emotion an album can. The most noticeable difference of this album is the fact that all their previous album covers were done completely monochrome, whereas they throw some color into the mix this time. The raw power of the opening track which bares the same name as the album is simply crushing. Lord of all screams and growls Gaahl puts on a grand performance. The rest of the tribe leads on with an assault of hyper speed black metal with some quirky electronics thrown in that well compliments the sound of this album. Gorgoroth also shows their ability to change up their sound by slowing it down a bit with tracks like "Litani Til Satan" and "When Love Rages Wild In My Heart". These tracks are slower tunes with clean vocals sung by Infernus in a very deep tone in a sort of My Dying Bride way. Even though they stand out as very different than all the previous Gorgoroth material, they are very enjoyable and done extremely well. Much of the lyrical content seems to be about human emotions. Very untypical of a style which beats into the ground their devotion to he with horns. Of all the albums which were released in 2000 I simply can’t put into words how much this album impressed me. It showed a new face of this band, the fact that in a genre of clones, they stand out and hopefully will lead the pack into a new sound.
