France’s finest exhibitionists deliver another randy release in the form of this new EP for Bones Brigade. Gronibard outshine their peers with an efficient offering of thick and goofy grooving grind. Things are just as absurd as ever as a barrage of hilarious vocal styles fit perfectly into the pocket of undeniably catchy riffs. Gronibard has always made me think of a gay parade colliding with a French soccer riot but this time the gays brought their acoustic guitars and the soccer match is an auto "tuning" club where young men put stickers and shiny things on their cars. Like a contemporary gay – everything about Gronibard is finely polished to a shiny luster to draw your undivided attention. Gronibard is growing up and like a schoolboy experimenting with his anus – they stop at nothing to provide stimulation. If you put a dress on your dog and drank red wine from his taint as he eats your garbage while howling along to an Edith Piaf record it would not be as French as Gronibard. Each song takes a progressive step away from metal as the EP progress and by the end – the pecker tracks of their noisy side-project Frankensperm can be witnessed in the form of oddball experimentation. Such departures from formulaic grind will only irritate those solely interested in the metal elements of Gronibard but it is these absurd departures that make the experience complete. Gronibard knows how to balance the grinding with the goofy but I am afraid that Gronibard seems to be getting bored with grind at times. It’s not that they don’t grind with conviction because they can rage with the best of them but the fact is: this release features a higher goof to grind ratio than the previous Gronibard releases. They seem to have an endless supply of killer riffs and when they focus on the grinding they are unavoidably catchy so I hope they don’t stray too far from this recipe. Porngrind is a pleasantly strange genre and the bands that break from simple misogynistic plodding grind are the ones that appeal the most to me. Fans of Birdflesh and Purulent Spermcanal will not be able to ignore the mix of fun, porn and grind delivered by these oft-naked Frenchmen. I don’t speak a lick of French but I know that Gronibard means really fucking good pornogrind or big tits in French. It’s the international language of fucking that gets their message across. Gronibard is the top dog in porngrind and their killer sound and great songs should appeal to anyone that likes grind and has a sense of humor.
