Morris from Cliteater is back with his third goresplattered solo offering on No Escape Records with the self-titled effort from his one-man band outfit Hymen Holocaust. Hymen Holocaust contains 7 tracks based on the Jörg Buttgereit (best known as being the director of Necromantik, which Hymen Holocaust paid tribute to with their debut offering Necromance) film Der Todesking.

While Hymen Holocaust’s first two efforts were straight-forward goregrind in the vein of Last Days of Humanity’s Hymns of Indigestible Suppuration, Hymen Holocaust sees a slight shift in the band’s sound. This effort has a much darker and more raw sound, bringing to mind Mortician with the raw as fuck guitar tone and riffing style. There’s been an upgrade in the vocals as Morris doesn’t simply rely on the pitch shifter, he does some really nasty raspy snarls, which adds some variety. Morris has also picked up the tempo with his drumming, laying down a tight and relatively quick rhythm, with some drum kit destroying blasts thrown in for good measure.

The material on Hymen Holocaust, is more in your face shredding and blasting intensity, yet while still retaining a slightly newer Last Days of Humanity vibe. There are some catchy tracks, like "Tuesday… Broken Beyond Repair", but the effort is Hymen Holocaust’s most visceral to date.

The change to a higher tempo sound isn’t going to make everyone happy, personally, I felt more engaged by the slower paced crushing sound, but this material has enough to keep my attention. While it may not be Morris’ best effort, it’s still worth checking out if you’re a goregrind fanatic, he does a much better job with the material than any 4 or 5 piece band could. Good stuff.
