When Immortal’s last release came out At The Heart Of Winter came out, many people bitched and moaned about this album not being as fast as their last two albums. While At The Heart Of Winter took a more "epic" black metal sound, Damned In Black seems to draw more from a thrash metal influence. Long gone is the Ultra-fast repetitive sound that we grew to love on Blizzard Beasts. Now comes a more intelligent, well produced sound which makes me giggle like a little bitch in delight. Still lies the dramatic guitar solos which made At The Heart Of Winter great, however a heavier sound is tossed in making for an amazing album. "Triumph" opens the album with an explosion of sound setting the pace of this ass beating known as an album. However the real standout song on Damned In Black has got to be the title track. Fast… but not too fast, Damned In Black turns Immortal, one of black metal’s most elite bands, in a new direction. A direction less interested in "being the fastest motherfucker on the planet" and more concerned with heaviness. So far the best release of the new millennium. To pass up on this album would be a true act of faggotry punishable by a kick in the balls.
