Considering guitarist/vocalist Leon del Muerte was too cheap to send me a copy of the demo and got lazy and "lost" the interview I sent him, I decided to be an asshole and download his band Impaled’s demo off of their website, of course, he put it up there so people would go out of their way to download it and check them out, but that’s beside the point. I’m not retarded… really. The demo consists of four tracks of pummeling death-grind, or grind-death, whichever term you analheads prefer, in the vein of Carcass and Exhumed, who just happen to have been the former band of two Impaled members, Leon and Ross. I personally am no fan of Exhumed and found their music to be rather boring, so wasn’t really expecting much from this group, however it seems as though Ross and Leon were the good members of the band because, amazingly, From Here To Colostomy doesn’t suck. In fact, I actually like it. The demo starts out with the title track, which has a heavy late-80s grind sound with the best vocal trade offs I’ve heard since Necroticism - Descanting The Insalubrious, a Carcass classic, for those of you who’ve been living in the woods for the past 10 years. "Fecal Rites" is one of my favorite tracks on the demo, with an excellent groove mixed with chaotic drumming and great riffing. "Immaculate Defecation" is a very grindy track with a few killer riffs tossed in amongst the slaughter. Finishing up the demo is "Flesh And Blood", their self-proclaimed theme song, which happens to be my least favorite of the four tracks. As an added bonus they’ve included "Spirits Of The Dead" from their 1999 promo on the website. If songs like this one make it to their upcoming Necropolis release, then it’s sure to do well. With their use of excellent vocal tradeoffs, riffing and song writing there’s no telling how well Impaled will do. For those still mourning the death of Carcass, shut the fuck up and check out the next best thing, the best thing since the invention of the Flobee; Impaled.
