Ever wonder what would happen in the event that Birdflesh members would get a hankering to play a lot of Repulsion-worship with the late Mieszko Talarczyk at the production helm and Dan Swanö on guest backing vocals? Yeah, neither did I. Apparently, they did wonder, though, and thus we have Jigsore Terror.
There’s not really much to say about them other than they’re more or less exactly how you would expect guys from Birdflesh doing Repulsion to sound. Take the speedy grind of Repulsion, merge it with the catchy riffs of Birdflesh, and you more or less have about 80% of Jigsore Terror’s sound. The other 20% comes from a big influence in the recent old school Scandinavian death metal resurgence where you have all these "supergroups" popping up left and right that rehash old Entombed (e.g. Bloodbath). So as a result the songs are a bit longer and at times have more of a slow-steady pace to them (such as "Bestial Frenzy").
Overall, it’s a good sound, but it’s nothing amazing. The music is entertaining, and the songs are catchy as hell, but it at times gets a bit repetitive. The death elements in there are kept at a minimum as to not entirely upset the balance between melody and old school grind while at the same time keeping all the bad elements of bands like Bloodbath out of the mix. It’s not going to get any awards, but it’s pretty decent and straight forward.
Jigsore Terror is definitely worth a look for a lot of grind fans, but don’t expect the most brutal thing around. It’s enjoyable, but I can definitely see why the combination never crossed my mind before.
