If you like technical grind (and some atmospheric doom and noise) then you might as well take your pants off right now and put them as far away from yourself as you can. Why? Because they will become a strange hybrid of a jizz, shit, and piss rag. You got the technical grind of Kalibas shredding your audio nerves followed by the grind/doom/what-the-fuck-am-I-listening-to antics of Rune. Yes, you will lose control of your private functions, and you’ll be smiling a huge shit-eating grin the whole time as your intestines nuke your ass to hell.

Starting with Kalibas, the split deals a dosage of intense grind. The music is all over the place with the guitar and drum work running about in a chaotic whirlwind of grind. The vocals jump the gamut from a middle range growl to a high pitch scream and deliver the necessary force needed to accommodate even the most critical grind fan.

Rune however makes up the bulk of the music (the Kalibas tracks take up maybe about 9 minutes; Rune‘s material is nearly twice the length). It’s similarly technical grind in most areas, though the music is not quite as chaotic. What you get towards the end is this strange amalgam of technical grind, ambient doom, noise, and just a moody sense of complete bleakness. Oh boy is this thing ever fucking bleak: the final track "For the Weary And The Sullen" sounds like the musical equivalent to the last hours of a soldier bleeding from a fatal bullet wound to the stomach. The only gripe is the sample at the very end of the sprawling soundscape; it tends to take away from the sense of nothingness. Other than that, Rune presents an equally awesome music experience.

Definitely one of Relapse’s better releases, Kalibas and Rune put out some great material on this split. Fuck, I’ll be listening to this in my shit-stained, soiled, jizz-soaked pants for a long time.
