Whoa! After listening to the "final" full length effort by Dutch goregrind legends Last Days Of Humanity entitled Putrefaction In Progress I only have one comment to make; what the fuck was that? Last Days Of Humanity have found a way to cram 41 tracks into just under 25 minutes.
The material is similar in style to their 2005 EP In Advanced Hemorrhaging Conditions; pitch shifted howling layered on top of blazing fast shredding layered on top of relentless blasting coming at you as a loud angry wall of sound. The songs are so fast and so brief if you sneeze you’ll miss 8 tracks.
The one major difference between Putrefaction In Progress and previous releases is that this album contains absolutely no intros or outros, this is just pure blazing gore throughout. The downside to this is that songs start to blend together and everything starts to sound alike. After 25 minutes you feel like you just finished listening to a construction worker jackhammering concrete, rather than listened to anything that even loosely resembles music.
Although the album has absolutely no musical merits at all, it’s oddly addictive. While I hated In Advanced Hemorrhaging Conditions I find myself much more interested in this album, but at the same time I’m unable to listen to the album in it’s entirety because it’s just way too much all at once. This is one of those rare albums that’s both good, bad and ugly and I’m neither inclined to recommend it nor tell people to stay away from. If you’re a glutton for punishment, pick up Putrefaction In Progress, if you’re looking for something that’s a lot more catchy and easier on the ears check out The Sound Of Rancid Juices Sloshing Around Your Coffin or Hymns Of Indigestible Suppuration.
