Gore defined. Last Days Of Humanity sound like wet guts and rotting flesh. Gore freaks worship the first two releases for their simplistic and direct form of raw gore with good reason. Most Europeans have been raving about the live show for a few years but American fans will have to wait for Maryland Fest 2004 to see what the hype is about. This new live CD has me more geeked than ever to see for myself. The band has changed line-ups quite a bit and it’s for the better. They are tighter, faster and heavier than on previous releases. The sound quality is great, for a live release, as the whole thing comes off a single rotting limb instead of the mushy stink pile some expect. The drums are the biggest improvement. Marc seems to get exponentially faster and heavier handed from release to release. Last Days Of Humanity are known for vocals right from the toilet, pitched down to slop and it sounds great in the live setting. The riffs tend to blend together after a while, but who needs stuff like melody and harmony when you are illustrating dead rotting flesh with sound? Fans expect the typical gore photo artwork and LDOH delivers. When other bands use rotten.com for cover art it seems lame - when LDOH does it, it rules! The photos chosen show brilliant color and texture and decomposition. Basically, this is essential for goregrind fans and the perfect primer for their first live appearance stateside. Each element of LDOH is becoming more finely crafted to suit the gore purist. The best gore bands continue to move away from formulaic death metal and at the moment - LDOH is leading the pack.
