I first heard about a new side-project involving Nick Barker (Dimmu Borgir, ex-Cradle Of Filth), Jesse Pintado and Shane Embury (Napalm Death) and L.G. Petrov (Entombed) early last year. This line-up intrigued me and I wasn’t sure what to expect. Nick, Jesse and Shane are all members of Brujeria, so I assumed the music would be along those lines. Was I ever wrong. The music has a feel of mid 80s-early 90s grind/death and is reminiscent of early Repulsion, Terrorizer and Napalm Death, only with more musical skill involved. The guitars shred along savagely while Nick pounds the shit out of his drum kit with surprising speed for a man that large. For those who don’t know, the band was named after Nick’s drumming, his arms would stiffen while playing long blast beats, and holy shit, does he ever blast along. Before the album was recorded it was found out that Petrov would be unable to participate on the CD, so the band got in touch with Peter Tägtgren of Hypocrisy who leapt at the opportunity to play with this super group. I must say, his vocals really impress me on this release. They’re probably better now than they ever have been. His angry delivery just spews hatred with high pitched wailings and his low end guttural snarls which easily puts his performance on par with any of the classic death-grind vocalists. The production of the album, with recording split between the UK and in Peter’s Abyss Studios, is surprisingly raw, although intentionally so, which only adds to the greatness of this release. Fans of early death grind will go ape shit over this CD. The vocals, drums and guitars for almost all songs were recorded in one take. No keyboards. No wimpy vocals. No filters. No effects. Just plain fucking hate. The promo consists of twelve tracks coming in at just over 27 minutes. If the CD contains even one more track than what’s listed here I’ll buy it, just for even 30 seconds of extra material. It’s just that good. This is recommended for those into old school raw, angry, fast grind of old. If you don’t like it, kill yourself, you deserve to die.
