Recipe for Looking For An Answer’s Buscando Una Respuesta;
1 part Napalm Death
1 part Terrorizer
1 part Extreme Noise Terror
1 part Assück
1 part Regurgitate
1 part Brutal Truth
1 part Alienation Mental
1 part Negligent Collateral Collapse
1 part Anal Blast
Mix in a blender on puree for 15 minutes and serve in 15 equal portions.
If you’re looking for fast, violent, chaotic and menacing grindcore, look no further than Spain’s Looking For An Answer, who combine the guitar shredding and drum machine punishing savagery of Napalm Death, Extreme Noise Terror, Terrorizer, Assück, Regurgitate and Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses-era Brutal Truth with the high pitched shrieking of Anal Blast’s Don Decker and the motor mouthed guttural gurgles of Negligent Collateral Collapse’s Paul combined with the catchiness of Alienation Mental.
While many grindcore releases are fast and chaotic, the large majority also suffer the condition I like to call everythingonthealbumsoundsthesame-itus. Each song just seems to be a new variation of the same track, with the same beats, same riffs, same vocal styles, same everything. Luckily, that isn’t the case at all with Buscando Una Respuesta as each song has its own sound and feel with no two tracks sounding the same with multiple breakdowns and tempo changes strewn throughout. If anything it sounds like you’re listening to a compilation CD featuring 15 different grindcore acts.
Buscando Una Respuesta was originally released on vinyl in 2003 with the material being recorded as a three-piece with a drum machine handling the percussion duties. The CD version of the material has been completely re-recorded with the band’s new drummer, and while I haven’t heard the original tracks from the vinyl release, I think it’s safe to say that this is more than likely the band’s finest moment.
While the originators of grindcore have likely seen their best days, I’m glad there is new blood taking the music to the next level, and with Kill The Client and Looking For An Answer leading the way, I think extreme music has a very promising future.
