I fucking do not understand. I have just suffered a horrendous attack to my senses . My CD player has been raped!!! Why?? What did I do to deserve this? I mean, sure, I like metal, I put out a ‘zine and it seemed appealing to some people, so I received some attention and it’s nice - I like being appreciated, it’s not easy in sea of many others. Some give me extra attention and send me free promos - this is very kind and they certainly did not have to do this, so the least I can do is show some appreciation by listening to what they offer and reviewing their material, right?? But what the FUCK is this!?!?!? My ears and my poor CD player - this disgusting filth inside it - UGH!! How can this be?? What would motivate someone to do this?? What have I ever done to them?? This band makes the Gothenburg sound seem like Manowar. I do not comprehend this. HATRED, DISGUST, CONTEMPT, REPULSION, PAIN AND HORROR flow through me as this debilitating abomination fills the air. THIS is what you should listen to if you want to suffer and experience aural torture. Darkthrone is indeed grim and chilling to the masses, but these guys would give Fenriz & Nocturno nightmares. Listen to plenty of this and you too will have no problem writing A Blaze In The Northern Sky. I seriously think bands like this are what keeps hateful metal alive. Only European culture would be able to cultivate something as idiotic as this, just as American culture breeds more and more moronic (and generic) gore bands. This "music" is very disturbing and I STRONGLY forewarn you before you leave yourself open to the unwarranted intrusion of such. Worse yet - well, no, because difference is good - but it must be understood that there IS a market out there for this. A fairly successful one, too. Obviously, if I can have such a powerful, agonizing reaction, then someone out there is bound to be in love with this. There is something here and any "true" demented masochist should have no problem appreciating it. Part of learning to deal with being raped and helping others be prepared is reconstructing the experience and letting it out of your system. At least, this is the common view. I am an honest person, therefore I will give a few comments related to the music itself, as horrid as rethinking this will be. I cannot endure anymore raping of my ears with this shit. I recall some nice melodies with a fast blast behind them, then some guy yelling/trying to sing in a sort of grunt style, then switching to an appalling attempt for clean vocals, followed by even more stupid melodies and packed together with completely retarded song arrangements. I have to give some credit in that it had to have taken a lot of work to sound this fucking stupid. An album title like Sitting By The Fire should have warned me a little bit, but I don’t think anything could have prepared me for the aural terror to follow. Half of these riffs came after playing video games, and I don’t mean the good ones. Or perhaps they were in fact listening to some decent video game music and unsuccessfully tried to copy that style, creating utter shit like many derivative copycats. But apparently this is music to some!! Fucking Golgotha fans will love this. There is a progressive element here which can be appreciated to a brief extent, but again, I feel anyone with even a semi-merciful sense of taste will stick with Rush, Queensryche, King Crimson and even Rhapsody instead. I think if I had respect for people, I would be mature and let them remain ignorant to the likes of Lunatic Gods, but I imagine I’ve already roused up some amount of curiosity for the truly morbid. For those feeling adventurous, be certain to wear your NO FEAR cap before giving this a listen. I sense hate FOR this music, not IN it. I am repelled by the sensations and whatever premonitions and images I receive from the sounds of Sitting By The Fire. Things actually get worse because I’m perplexed at what’s happening at first, sensing some distaste, and then I slowly start to understand a tiny bit of what’s going on and it snowballs from there, resulting in a cycle of contempt, disgust, and HATRED. Each song becomes more painful, filled with senseless melodies - are these supposed to be melancholic or what the fuck!? Then these stupid synths continue to infest and more raspy/clean/raspy/etc vocals that sound like a VAGUELY EFFEMINATE BULGARIAN NOBLEMAN (Thanks Neel) with down syndrome trying to serenade Juliette Lewis. I am not even tempted in the least to say that, "This is so bad, it’s good!" This is so bad, it’s BAD. Well - no - this isn’t necessarily a "bad" thing, it’s just not my thing. Find out for yourself.
