Whenever I write a negative review a lot of people seem to dismiss what I say because they claim I’m "just a brutal death metal fan." This has always struck me as odd, considering how few brutal death metal bands I actually listen to. There’s Suffocation, Deeds Of Flesh, Dehumanized, Devourment, Brodequin, Pustulated, Wormed and… umm… uhhh… hmm… I guess that’s pretty much it right there. Lust Of Decay is not one of those bands, nor will they be added to that short list after listening to Kingdom Of Corpses. Based out of North Carolina, Lust Of Decay are a brutal death metal band who are influenced by basically the above mentioned bands, along with Dying Fetus, Internal Bleeding, Vomit Remnants, Pyaemia and the like. Their musical approach is to attempt to emulate the aforementioned bands without really doing anything unique, interesting or original. The brutal death metal bands I enjoy don’t sound alike, each one has their own unique sound and have different elements that capture my attention; be it ridiculous technicality, amazing musicianship, catchy riffs or ridiculously inhuman vocals. Lust Of Decay doesn’t have any of these elements; they just seem to go through the motions without actually trying to create a sound of their own. It’s not that I have anything against unoriginal bands, as long as they do it well and change things up enough to separate themselves from the rest, but when all you do is play music that sounds exactly like 200 other bands in the genre, you just blend in and become yet another band that’s completely overlooked. The basic vibe for this release is snarled vocals with generic songwriting and average musicianship. They even do a cover of Deicide’s "Lunatic Of God’s Creation" that is so bland that I couldn’t even tell they were covering Deicide until I looked at the CD booklet afterwards. The only thing that truly surprised me about the band is the fact that their drummer is fucking huge, and not in the Gene Hoglan manner either, we’re talking the lost Hoffmann brother. The dude is built like a brick shithouse with arms the size of tree stumps, but he doesn’t really bash the living shit out of the drum kit, he seems pretty reserved in his exertion of strength upon the drum kit. One thing I learned working in porn is that most of the guys who are hugely muscular are also prone to enjoying the "company of other men", now I’m not saying that’s the case, cos if I was in a barroom brawl, I’d want a guy like him watching my back, just not my ass, not that implying anything, just saying…
