Machetazo “Mundo Cripta”

Machetazo
Mundo Cripta

Genre:Death Grind GoreFormat:CDTracks:15
Label:Throne RecordsYear:2008

Right now, I’m giddy as a little school girl. Completely fucking giddy. Why? Because that little country known as Spain has blessed us with yet another excellent death/grind release. But not a solid release from just any band.

Oh no, we have something much better than that. We have a new Machetazo album. If there was a metal equivalent of having your knob slobbered by 50 buxom women and then a mass 3-week orgy followed suit, it would be a new Machetazo album.

But with zombies. And werewolves. And death. And gore.

And so were now have Mundo Cripta, the latest slab of death metal and grind from Spanish masters Machetazo. It’s fifteen fucking tracks of pure furious grinding, moody growling, grooving death, and dreadfully intensifying morbid atmosphere. Just the way I like it.

The riffs are seethingly fast, raw, and intense. The album rips open with a no-nonsense fervor and then breaks into catchier riffing towards the second half of the album. Vocally, the growls are murky, throaty grunts, with a raw, fuzzy edge comparable to the buzzsaw guitar sound, and the drums are equally full in sound.

The production really shines on Mundo Cripta. The sound reminds me a lot of the excellent sound from the latest Captain Cleanoff album Symphonies of Slackness. It’s got an intense, dense sound to it that isn’t sterile but is massively organic and fresh, like the odor of a nearly slaughtered carcass in a butcher shop. It’s atmospheric and dirty, but completely separate and distinct from low-fi and sloppiness. It’s dirty the way dirty is supposed to sound, as opposed to dirty the way it inadvertently sounds from crappy knob-twisting or from purposeful manhandling. Fucking awesome.

If you haven’t already picked up Mundo Cripta from Machetazo it’s imperative that you do so immediately. This easily ranks up there with the new Captain Cleanoff as one of the best death/grind releases of 2008.

Hmm…. That riff from ‘Alucinaciones Blasfemas’ is taken straight from ‘When Death Replaces Life’ by Cannibal Corpse.

    Yes, i’m a nit-picking cunt.
