Gloomy, folkish doom with superb female vocals, sounds like early The 3rd & The Mortal with more going on. When I say "superb", I don’t mean some "oohs" and "aahs" here and there; this is a soothing, delectable, mature singer’s voice capable of doing anything it wants. There’s sort of a dark ambience generated by the production, and I for one would be hard-pressed to term this band "metal", the emphasis sounds more like dark folk with metal touches, such as the fabulous, heavy, My Dying Bride-ish guitar tone and occasional double bass beats. Keyboards/piano and acoustic guitar are worked nicely in as well, but the blend is subtle enough where no instrument is really dominant, though I must say I enjoy the drumming quite a lot. I find this album to be perfect nighttime traveling music, as it always makes me feel like being somewhere "else". "Undertow" and "Remnants" are songs I could listen to if I was "sitting by the fire" with the intent to actually chill out (what, me chill out..?? seriously…) and enjoy myself vs. be thrown into a raucous Lunatic-Gods-murdering frenzy. "These Mortal Sins" will capture the dark, distressful, even haunting side of you without much of a problem, easily my favorite here. I’m not exactly sure how easy this will be track down since Misanthropy is no longer, but it’s very well worth it if a relaxed, melancholic atmosphere with a bit of groove to it sounds appealing. If nothing else, try contacting Plastic Head and mailorder it directly, they were one major distributor.
