Sometimes, one likes to take a glance at where a band hails from to try to get some idea of what the music sounds like. Mental Horror hails from Brazil… ok are you thinking of a band other than Sepultura? Are you thinking of Krisiun? Well, you have got it!

When I first picked up Krisiun’s Black Force Domain when it was re-issued in 1997, I was blown away by the fierce mixture of black metal and death metal, the stamina of the drummer, and the downright nasty nature of each song. Their next album was also very good and then I lost my taste for the band. It became monotonous and had been copied so much by this point, it seemed as though having the first two albums were enough. Mental Horror’s release sounds very similar to Krisiun’s first disc. It is absolutely relentless music with a drummer who blasts the entire album. It is fast indeed. But that is about it. There is no "beef" in this type of death metal. By "beef," I mean heavier aspects, slower parts, thumping bass, and pounding drums. And those damn solos the ones that fail to follow the music at all really killed it for me. I felt the same way when Arnold gives the "thumbs up" at the end of Terminator 2. It just ruined the movie for me and made it cheesier than the Kraft factory. The solos had the same effect. If you are a fan of non-stop blasting with blackened riffs, this is probably a great album. For the rest of us, I think we would rather put up sheet rock than listen to this. And if you have Krisiun’s first two releases, you really don’t need this.
