I must admit I was never a big fan of Metal Church during the 80s boom of thrash metal. At the time I focused my attention on bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Sepultura. The music of Metal Church is more or less a mix between early 80s Bay Area thrash and NWOBHM. I was never impressed by Metal Church and always found their music to be incredibly boring, especially compared to the bands I mentioned earlier. The production on this release is sub-par and whenever vocalist David Wayne speaks at the crowd he sounds like he’s in a glam rock band and is worth a few laughs. As far as live albums of the 80s are concerned, this is one of the weaker ones I’ve heard. Lucky for me this CD was damaged in the mail and there’s a huge gouge in it that won’t allow me to play the last four songs. This album isn’t even worth a review, since Nuclear Blast are simply trying to cash in on the band’s success, Metal Church Live is really bland and is for die hard fans only. The only good live thrash album from the 80s would be Slayer’s Live Undead and this album and band is nowhere near being in the same league as Slayer. Metal Church sucked in 1986, they suck even more now. Don’t even bother with this live album unless you’re looking for something to use for target practice.
