Bwarg69, I’m one of Metallica’s biggest fans. As a fan, my opinion of Death Magnetic is not one of a “Megatard”. I like Metallica, but I don’t like Death Magnetic. In fact, I don’t care much for St. Anger, Reload or Load. As soon as I mention Megadeth everyone shoots me with the “Megadeth VS Metallica” bullet. Fuck off with that, it’s just music, not WWE. Who said Megadeth is superior to Metallica? Is a table superior to a table? It’s music, not NFL, in the end, it all comes down to TASTE. Not record sales, not numbers of fans, not MTV awards, just taste. And as a fan of Metallica, as a person who has taste for Metallica, I listen to Megadeth. Metallica used to make music I enjoy, now they make music I think is pathetic. Megadeth used to make music I enjoy, now they make music I enjoy more. You think Dave Mustaine is a horrible vocalist? I don’t feel insulted by that. I think Kirk Hammet is a mediocre guitarist and Robert Trujillo a terrible, terrible bassist. Unlike me, you’re probably going to be offended by that. And if you’re wondering why you’re offended by my opinion, it’s the same reason you’re still listening to Death Magnetic even though you probably don’t like it or had to LEARN to like it. I did the same thing with St Anger until I realized it was a pile of shit, for my musical taste anyway.

At last, a review which confirms what I’ve always thought. Death Magnetic is SHIT.

Don’t get me wrong, Metallica kicks ass and I consider them to be my favourite metal band of all time, but basically, after the Black Album, (I think) it all went South.

Now, oddly enough, I really enjoyed St Anger. I really liked the rough, aggressive sound of it. It was refreshingly different…but it’s no Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning.

I’ve tried to like Death Magnetic, but I find it boring, formulaic. It feels like they didn’t just write some songs, they purposely made them a certain way following all the cliche of a structured metal song in order to get over with the fans they lost at St Anger.

Anyway, just my opinion. I won’t listen to it.
