Mothra “Dyes”

Mothra
Dyes

Genre:MetalcoreFormat:CDTracks:7
Label:Selfmadegod RecordsYear:2009

Well, it’s metalcore so I should probably hate it.  Although I have enjoyed Burnt By The Sun on occasion, that’s about it for me when it comes to this genre.  Randomly skipping through this album quickly alerted me to the fact that this was not going to be a Burnt By The Sun situation.  The main thing that fucks this album up for me is the vocals.  Sometimes yelling works, and sometimes it’s annoying.  Pigsty’s latest is a great example of yelling that I like.  The mathematics involved in the songwriting and riffing is just not that interesting.  They’re not as over-the-top as Dillinger Escape Plan, but still, there just isn’t a lot of meat worth sinking your teeth into.  The music these Polish wonders crank out is OK in terms of musicianship, but it’s just not heavy or powerful.  This disc does not move me in any way, except toward the eject button.

Naming your band Mothra is a great way to get Japanese listeners.  For some reason the name sounds cool and conjures up visions of Yar’s Revenge.  These guys are sort of like a weak version of earlier The End.  Although I’m predisposed to not liking this genre, there are a few bands I’ve enjoyed…very few.  Mothra lacks the catchy gooves that The End and Burnt By The Sun offer up.  There is simply no feeling of “Fuck yes!” anywhere to be found in my humble opinion.  One track called “Octarine” changes things up with a bit of sludge but it still leaves me wanting way more.  If I wanted to recommend a disc for Hot Topic to carry, this would be one of them.  For people who aren’t like Mikey, you should move on to the plethora of brilliance that is the current metal world.  That’s all the time I’ve got for this.  Send your hate post haste.

This Album Is...
Mediocre
Very "Meh!" Not Worth The Money!

Burnt by the sun turned metalcore during the time in which the didn’t release any albums ? Interesting.
