I keep hearing people complaining about Nasum and calling them "soft" grind. This comment has always confused me, because it doesn’t matter which Nasum album you toss in the stereo, you’ll soon have your eardrums torn to shreds with angry, violent, hate fueled, venomous spite, in the form of guitars, bass, drums and vocals. I first heard this album sometime in late 2003, and I can honestly say there probably isn’t an album I’ve listened to more in the past 6 months than Helvete. The album is 22 songs of mind numbing grind that will slice you ear to ear and leave you gargling in your own blood. Helvete is, in essence, a continuation of Human 2.0, only without the slower and more melodious tracks that laced said album. The best way I can describe Helvete, would be to take the speed of Inhale/Exhale, add the precision of Human 2.0, increase the production tenfold, take the vocals up another notch in sheer shriekdom, add the intensity of Scum and anything by Assück, sprinkle in some riffing by Napalm Death’s Shane Embury on two tracks and Petter Freed of 2 Ton Hammer on another, add backing vocals by Entombed’s Jörgen Sandström and original Nasum vocalist/drummer Rickard Alriksson, blend it… no! Better yet, GRIND it all together and you’ll get one of the most intense and angry grindcore albums written in the past 10 years. I’m willing to say this is probably the best Nasum album to date, surpassing both Inhale/Exhale and Industrislaven as my personal favorite. My only suggestion to anyone who buys this album is this; crank the volume. I don’t know how, but somehow, the louder you play Nasum, the better they sound. Unless you’re a total retard, you’ll take my advice and rush out and buy this now. NOW!
