2003’s Mass Murder Festival by Brazilian goregrinders Neuro-Visceral Exhumation was apparently one of the most intense slabs of gore I’d heard in quite some time according to the review I wrote a few years ago. Unfortunately I’ve misplaced the disc amongst stacks of albums strewn throughout my cluttered room and honestly can’t even remember what the material sounds like. What I do know is the band’s latest offering The Human Society Wants More Gore is like having a snarling pit bull barking in one year while a chainsaw snarls to life in the other.

While I can’t compare the two albums because, well, I honestly forget what Mass Murder Festival sounds like, what I can say is The Human Society Wants More Gore is goregrind in every sense of the word. The music is simplistic, heavy, distorted, down tuned, catchy, eerie, sick and demented all at the same time. The production sounds as though the album was recorded inside of a garbage disposal unit, grinding up bits of bone and meat in it’s razor-sharp blades, in other words, perfect for goregrind but shitty for ever other style of music.

The faster gore moments are definitely reminiscent of Last Days Of Humanity’s Sounds Of Rancid Juices Sloshing Around Your Coffin and the mid-paced stuff has a strong early Dead Infection feel. The vocals vary from pitch shifted gurgle to high-pitched grindcore shrieking and both are equally effective.

The album contains a couple of surprising cover songs; Incantation’s "Profanation" and Repulsion’s "Helga (Lost Her Fucking Head)". While both songs are played pretty well the rough production is a little distracting, but both tracks are entertaining listens.

Throughout the past few months The Human Society Wants More Gore has found itself in my stereo or iPod on several occasions and as many times as I may listen to it, I still never tire of the band’s lo-fi goregrind approach. This is the perfect album to fuck a dead body to… if you’re into that sort of thing… you sick demented fuck.
