Ever since I heard Origin’s Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas I’ve been a fan of the band. Sure, they’re not the greatest technical brutal death metal band (as criticisms show of their first album and demo material), but as someone that is looking for a straight foreword, unrelenting onslaught, they’re definitely up my alley. Of course, a new year has brought up a new album, and I eagerly awaited this.
First, the good news: if you’re an insane fan of Origin this album won’t disappoint. Straight from the opening "Reciprocal" it’s just one long blitzkrieg of brutal death that Origin is known for. It’s insanely technical, as brutal as a Third Reich panzer tank, and just keeps coming. Now the bad news: this thing is as repetitive as a televangelist’s con act. You know that head-banging opener "Reciprocal" I just mentioned? I played this baby, rocked out to it for the longest time, looked at my play list, and noticed I was already on the third track "The Burner". No, it is not because it was short; half of the songs on this album are repetitive and generic as all hell. I guarantee that you will go through half of this album not realizing you’ve passed through 3 or 4 songs. That’s not very good.
Origin can definitely do better than this. Considering the album clocks in at an unusually short 26 minutes, the repetitiveness might be overlookable but in the end, this is only recommendable to the staunchest Origin fan. If you don’t like Origin be prepared to be bored out of your wits. This is by no means their best material, has very little variety to it, and will ultimately leave you begging to be shot. It would be best for you to avoid this album. If you haven’t heard Origin, go sample Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas first and see what you think; Echoes of Decimation is by no means something for those new to Origin.
