Pessimist’s second release on Lost Disciple Records is an impressive album showing maturity in song writing and technicality. I was amazed that this is what Pessimist currently sounds like and I could definitely say that it made me forget that their debut album, Cult Of The Initiated, even existed. The Pessimist sound is still retained in songs like "Century Of Lies" and "Demonic Embrace", where the thrash beats found in the first release are still evident. The rest of the songs like "Unspeakable Terror" and, my personal favorite, "Psychological Autopsy" is an all-out brutal death metal assault with catchy rhythms and choruses that stand out. The production is excellent where you can hear every single note of the extremely well-played (and flawless) guitar solos to the crunchy low-end of the bass guitar while the drums provides this massive sound that defies what they’ve done before. "Unborn (Father)" shows the "softer" side of Pessimist by introducing the song to an acoustical melodic overtone but it later turns into a chaotic groove frenzy. "Wretched Of The Earth" also starts off similarly to "Unborn (Father)" but the melody is still continued throughout the song. Pessimist has considerably left the "Dungeon Metal" category (or as they claimed they were) and stepped forward to a more progressive sound. This has been, by far, one of the best releases I’ve heard from an East Coast death metal band in ages!
