I don’t usually laugh when listening to CDs, but Prophanity’s Stronger Than Steel has me laughing so hard tears stream down my cheeks. I don’t know if this is supposed to be a serious release or what, it has to be a joke. I think Prophanity is supposed to be a black metal band, but I’m not really sure, they use an awful lot of really lame 80s thrash soloing and, maybe it’s just me, but occasionally this band sounds like they’re playing ska. I can’t even imagine a live set from this act, they probably spend half the time flashing the goat horns trying to look evil and the other half skanking like idiots across the stage with Xs written on the back of their hands. The second track "Walking Through Fire", which first appeared on the Blackend 3 compilation is actually decent black metal, but the rest of the album is pretty ridiculous. Here’s a little bit of advice for people running record labels; just because a band comes from Sweden doesn’t necessarily mean they’re good, all it means is there’s a good chance they’ve had drunken sex with reindeer and spend too much time bouncing hockey pucks off each others’ foreheads. They even have one of the stupidest album covers I’ve ever laid eyes upon. I’m starting to think the only decent things coming out of Scandinavia are chocolate, beer and strange porn involving animals, power tools or lawn ornaments. Rather than rant on about how terrible Prophanity are, I think I’m going to head on-line and search for pictures of Swedish women having sex with garden gnomes.
