No Escape delivers more solid stuff in the form of Canada’s Putrescence. This is churning and grooving goregrind with solid production, a live band feel and a bunch of punishing and solid riffs delivered with conviction. Flourishes of pick harmonics and a steady vocal delivery almost makes me think of a heavier and crustier Impaled. The guitar tones are nice and thick and are support by a big and nasty driven bass tone. You really can’t ask for a better raw production. I hear no irritating triggers or superfluous overdubbing - this is just a band that rocks showcased by a great warm sound. The drums alternate between varied blasts and grooves and are played with a rocking heavy-handedness. Included lyrics detail acts of depravity and gore with a sense of humor and comic story vibe. Pentagrams and names like Dark Lord Skullbong will not be well-received by teachers or catholics. But do you think these guys care? They want to fuck you in the brain and drink your dad’s beer while burning a rapehole your mother’s skull with a cracktorch. I like bands that sound like they drink a lot of beer and don’t always pee where they should. Australians seem to have a good sense of this type of beer-fueled thick deathgrindgore stuff and they make a great addition to the already strong No Escape roster. The cover is a real-live dead person that I think I saw on the Bitch Infection CD. A nice booklet with great black and white photos round out the package which doesn’t feature art from Jake from Tales From Uranus. I like their grindy moments a bit more but they can deliver a nice churning riff when the arrangement calls for it. Solid writing and brief arrangements will make for nice repeat listens as well. There is nothing real innovative here but those looking for heavy and fierce grinding death will be pleased. I’d love to see it live.
