Poland’s Reinfection have been around for more than 10 years, but I knew nothing of the band’s music before getting a copy of their Peace Through Killing "best of" offering in the mail. Peace Through Killing contains five new tracks, their long out of print They Die For Nothing full length, and the band’s 1998 The Edge of Her Existence demo.

The five new tracks are a whirlwind of brutal death grinding fury, with relentless blasts, high pitched shrieks, deep guttural snarls and high tempo shredding. The material is equal parts brutal death metal, death grind, grindcore and old school death metal. The music is catchy and gets my head bobbing along to the rhythm.

The material from They Die For Nothing is typical of something you’d expect from Ablated Records, a label which released albums by Fermento, Regurgitation and Brodequin; high tempo American-style brutal death metal with inhuman gurgling vocals, shrieks, blast beats and crushing breakdowns. It’s not the most technical material ever recorded, nor the most original, but it’s definitely the kind of stuff that will get people up and making stupid faces and snarling into their fists like a retard who just got stung on the tongue by a bee. GNNAAARRR!!!

The tracks from The Edge of Her Existence are along the same lines as the material from the full length, a lot of rough nasty brutal death grinding, breakdowns, snarling, shrieking and drum kit smashing.

While the music on this disc is well played and catchy it suffers greatly from a really weak production. I understand that the original recordings’ productions weren’t that great, but if you’re going to spend the money to re-issue old material you should at least take the time and get someone to clean up the production. The guitar tone just doesn’t sound as menacing as it could be, with a deep bass-heavy tone, sharpened drum sound and clearer vocals this album would be absolutely worth checking out. As it is it’s just a re-issuing of old poorly produced, albeit decent, music. Unless you’re a big fan of that old shitty sound, this album is completely skipable, which is a shame because there’s potential for a really quality release here.
