Apparently Siebenbürgen is the best selling merchandise band on Napalm… let’s hope Napalm is proud… I mean fuck, with bands like Abigor and Setherial on the label, it’s gotta be thrilling to announce this as a selling point. Although Siebenbürgen maintain a darker edge and can play their instruments quite well, there is nothing exciting or stimulating about this music, and no variations, harmonies or anything outside the ordinary. The drum triggers have completely taken away any power and personality they may have otherwise managed in the few decent melodies lurking around… classic textbook case here. They’re going on about fairytales and creatures of old folklore or something and they know how to make notes work together, limit the riffs and keep the music moving, but no actual energy manages to jump out. Never forgetting their cheesy keyboards and annoying female vocals - I’m sure she’s happy her talent is culminating in some generic "aahs" around boring guitar lines - Siebenbürgen is a safe, middle-ground sound for safe, middle-ground people who may enjoy thinking about vampires and retards, and in this case, since this band is of the gothic metal persuasion, I’m giving them some credit for not being "extreme" with themselves. I must also congratulate them for not shoving any fucking blastbeats in here, so at least they have some sense of direction. However, this middle-ground approach is nice and dandy and all until one decides to cover WASP, especially "Fuck Like A Beast". No further comments necessary.
